Chaminade Alumni to Contribute to Cornell Crew Team

Will Oprea and Rob Oxer will row for the Red in 2012-13.

A pair of Flyer alumni will sit in the longboat for Cornell University for the 2012-13 season as part of 7 new freshmen on the lightweight roster.

Will Oprea and Rob Oxer will be adding their experience to the already talented crew team according to the Cornell Daily Sun.

“We're excited about our incoming freshman class,” head coach Chris Kerber said. “We feel they have the potential to make serious contributions to the program from the moment they set foot on campus.”

Oprea from Hicksville, was a five-time letterwinner at , winning the 2012 NYS Rowing Championship and claimed the fastest men’s high school eight title at the 2011 Head of the Charles Regatta. The 6’2” rower also attended the 2011 US Rowing Men’s Development Camp and the 2012 US Rowing Junior Men’s Selection Sweep Camp.

Oxer, who stands at 5’11”, comes from Locust Valley, winning a NYS Championship and SRAA national championship as a junior in 2011.

Cornell begin their season on October 13 at Rochester for the Head of Genessee regatta, before continuing on to Boston for the Head of the Charles regatta a week later.
