Nationals Reportedly Set to Trade Chaminade Grad
Washington said to be “aggressively” trying to unload pitcher John Lannan.
Left-handed pitcher John Lannan, aka “The Pride of Long Beach,” is apparently on the trading block, according to reports.
Lannan, a graduate of Chaminade High School and Siena College, recently lost his arbitration case this past Thursday and the Washington Nationals will have to pay him $5 million instead of his desired $5.7 million.
According to Fox Sports, Washington is “aggressively” shopping the 27-year old after the acquisition of lefty Gio Gonzalez and reaching an agreement with agreement with free-agent right-hander Edwin Jackson.
If the Nationals traded Lannan… they still would have one left-hander in their rotation, Gonzalez, and possibly a second, Ross Detwiler.
Lannan went 10-17 with a 3.70 ERA, earning a salary of $2.75 million in the 2011 season, the first time he reached the 10 win plateau in his 5 years as a major league player. The Nationals finished in third place in the 2011 NL East after being in fifth place for the previous three.

What accounts for their "aggression "? Is it Lennon's record in court or on the mound?

It could be that they are trying to unload payroll (Lannan is their highest paid right now) or that he has not posted a winning record in three of his last four seasons (8-8 in 2010), but the Nats do not provide him much run support whenever he pitches.
Being a lefty, he will be around the game for a while though.
