Winthrop-University Hospital and Nassau Comptroller George Maragos Team Up to Keep Seniors on their Feet
Free classes for seniors and veterans will provide tips on
how to keep your balance and avoid dangerous falls
Mineola, NY- Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos and Winthrop-University Hospital will be offering free fall prevention classes for seniors and veterans beginning in late October. The classes will be held at the Old Bethpage Village Restoration. Registration is required as seating is limited.
Winthrop Wellness Community Outreach Center will be providing tips on how to strengthen your muscles, improve your flexibility, balance and mobility through music and exercise. Be Prepared for the winter months, and learn what to do if you fall.
Each year, one in three adults 65 and older falls due to lack of balance and strength, poor eye sight and other reasons, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Falls can cause moderate to severe injuries, from lacerations and bone fractures to head trauma, and increase the risk of early death.
