Boy Scouts to Allow Gay Youths to Join

Ban remains in place on gay adult leaders.

By Pam Robinson

The Boy Scouts of America decided Thursday to end its policy of banning openly gay youths to participate, while retaining a ban on gay adult leaders.

It was a significant step for the organization, one both hailed and criticized as one that went too far or not far enough.

The change will take effect in January. Meanwhile, a Connecticut council decided to allow both youth and adult gay participation.

What do you think? Should New Hyde Park Boy Scouts allow gay adult leaders?

Should the ban on gay Scouts have continued? Please tell us in the comments.
