Chaminade Grad Posthumously Inducted Into Veterans’ Hall of Fame

Army Ranger James Regan's name added to New York State hall of fame roll.

The graduate who already has between his hometown and his alma mater.

Now he has been inducted into the New York State Veterans’ Hall of Fame by another former Flyer.

On May 22 state – a Chaminade alumni himself – helped induct Sgt. James J. Regan into the state senate’s Veterans Hall of Fame alongside his mother Mary Regan, who had travelled to Albany for the event.

A Manhasset resident, Regan graduated from Chaminade as an all-American lacrosse player before going to Duke and turning down a job offer for a prominent financial services company and a scholarship to law school upon graduation to join the Army in 2004.

Regan graduated first in his class of 400 in Infantry Basic Combat Training before Ranger school, being assigned to the 75th Ranger Regiment. He served two tours of duty in Afghanistan and one in Iraq during the war on terrorism, leaving for his fourth tour of duty and second in Iraq in January 2007. On Feb. 9, 2007, while conducting combat operations in Northern Iraq, Regan lost his life when his vehicle was struck by an IED.

“Sergeant Regan’s courage and sacrifice embodies the enduring spirit of our country,” Martins said in a statement. “It’s up to us to remember that freedom and our way of life comes at a price. Sergeant Regan paid that price for all of us.”
