Chaminade President Named as Chair of Catholic Charities Board

Bro. Thomas Cleary, S.M. appointed as chairperson of one of Long Island's largest human service agencies.

Chaminade President Bro. Thomas Cleary, S.M. will be adding another appointment to his list of duties in the Diocese of Rockville Centre as Catholic Charities recently announced that he has been appointed as chairperson of its board of trustees.

A Marianist Brother for more than 30 years, Bro. Cleary has taught most of those years at Chaminade High School, where he served as dean of students for 18 years. Last year he also taught at Kellenberg Memorial High School.

For the past 3 years he has served as Provincial Superior of the Province of Meribah, which comprises Chaminade High School, Kellenberg Memorial High School, St. Martin de Porres Marianist School, as well as the three retreat facilities the Province operates. He has served on the Catholic Charities Board since 2009.

Catholic Charities, one of Long Island’s largest human service agencies, also elected several new trustees to its board:

Garden City resident Margaret A. D’Angelo, who serves as trustee at St. Anne’s Parish, Garden City and as Chair of the Leadership Committee for St. John’s University’s School of Education.

Richard T. Marooney was elected after having served Catholic Charities as a member of its Development Committee which he now chairs. Also a resident of Garden City, Mr. Marooney is a partner in King & Spalding’s New York Business Litigation group and a member of the firm’s Policy Committee.

Gail F. Sullivan of Babylon is a retired public relations professional from CMF Group Inc. and the past president of Babylon Rotary Club, current President of Central Council of the Guilds of Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center.

Nicholas Tortorella of Syosset is the Executive Director/Chief Operating Officer at Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel LLP in New York City. He is on the RCIA team at St. Edward's Parish, the Dean's Council at Quinnipiac Law School and has served on the Boards of United Way Hudson County, Goodwill Industries and Christ Hospital in Newark.
