Children Learn All About Safety

North Hempstead Notebook: Board meets Tuesday.

Children learned some important lessons about safety Wednesday, with a little help from some local leaders.

More than 200 people attended North Hempstead’s Kids Safety Day at Mary Jane Green Park in Manhasset where children busied themselves with plenty of activities on beach and pool safety, internet safety, child-car seat safety checks and bullying prevention were big topics.

Also on hand, the Manhasset Lakeville Fire Department with a fire truck and smokehouse where children were instructed on how to escape a room caught on fire.

“The children are taught to crouch down low where air in the room is still cool enough to survive,” said Mike Farrone, the Deputy Chief of Co. 5, in a statement.

Town Councilwoman Anna Kaplan and Nassau County Legislator Judi Bosworth partnered to host the Sixth Annual North Hempstead Kids Safety Day showcasing a host of demonstrations and special displays. And Town Clerk Leslie Gross distributed child ID cards for parents.
