Children See Science of Space at Mineola Library

Young students learn and play at space technology event at Mineola Memorial Library.

Mad Science held a space technology event for kids grades one through five at the on August 7. There were 20 children that participated in the one-hour event and afterwards all who participated received a lightning launcher to take home with them to continue their learning experience.

Parents sat around the room watching their kids be enthralled by the Mad Science host who introduced himself for the afternoon as Professor Will. Not only were the kids engaged with hands-on activities, but they also had a chance to learn about space technology.

Some tasks were harder than others. The children shot laser beams across mirrors as each group tried to solve the puzzle of shooting the laser to the exact position that Professor Will instructed. It was hard, but all completed the mission.

Afterwards, Professor Will helped the kids map out a mountain just like real space technology, but this time with markers and paper.

As the final act, all the children drew their own mothership to try and land their lightning launchers on. Not only did the kids learn about fun space technology, but they also got to bring their new toy home and continue the learning.
