Cub Scouts Hold Bike Safety Rodeo

Pack 311 learn safety tips from AAA, MTA Police.

When you think of a rodeo, chances are the imagery of horses, bulls and westerns come to mind instead of bicycles.

Yet the young members of Cub Scout Pack 311 of Williston Park Church of the Resurrection recently held such a “Bike Rodeo” this past Saturday in coordination with the Albertson Fire Department, AAA of New York, and the MTA Police Department and – along with their siblings – were given instructions on how to ride their bikes safely, had their bikes and helmets checked and participated in some bicycle activities. They even learned how kids delivered hard-copy newspapers in the “olden days.”

After the bike activities, Officer John of the MTA Police gave a presentation on railroad safety and how the scouts should not play near the tracks and respect the trains we see everyday.

Each of the youngsters left with a certificate and goodie bags from both AAA and the MTA.

In addition, two lucky kids received brand new bike helmets donated by AAA.

The pack sends their thanks to the AAA, Albertson FD, MTA Police and all the parents who came out to help this event to get off the ground.
