We’ve assembled a weekly calendar of kid-friendly activities and new places to try out with children.

You’re time-pressed enough, so we’re happy to do the research and find the best things to do and places to go, both locally and within reasonable striking distance.

FAMILY BEST BETS OF THE WEEK

1. 

Where/When: , Monday through Friday through August 31, from 1 to 4 p.m.

Why Go: This is a unique workshop as you design your own family birdhouse using wood pieces, bright paint, and other exciting materials. 

Pricing: $4 with museum admission ($3 LICM members)

2. 

Where/When: , Friday, July 8, from 2 - 3 p.m.

Why Go: The Silly Dilly Band is a live children’s musical band performing high energy music for the entire family. 

Pricing: $4 with museum admission, $3 LICM members, $8 theater only

3.  

Where/When: , Monday through Friday through August 26, from 2 to 4 p.m.

Why Go: Learn fun ways to help the environment, enjoy a variety of outdoor experiences and try your hand at cooking, crafts and other science activities. 

Pricing: Free with museum admission.

4. Create Wire Art  

Where/When: , Friday, July 8, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Why Go: Twist bend and twirl colorful copper wires into wire art and jewelry. Call 742-7662 or thegardenartstudio@gmail.com.

Pricing: $25 each or save $5 if you bring a friend. Limited seating. Must preregister. 

5. Yoga in the Gardens

Where/When: Old Westbury Gardens, Saturday, July 9, from 11:15 to 12:30 p.m.

Why Go: A professional yoga instructor will lead students through a dynamic, yet gentle, continuous flow of postures and conscious breathing. Participants must bring a yoga mat, yoga strap and towel. For tweens/teens/adults.

Pricing: $15 per session, includes Gardens admission
