We’ve assembled a weekly calendar of kid-friendly activities and new places to try out with children.

You’re time-pressed enough, so we’re happy to do the research and find the best things to do and places to go, both locally and within reasonable striking distance.

FAMILY BEST BETS OF THE WEEK

1. 

Where/When:  (Hearst Auditorium), Thursday and Friday, May 26 and 27, at 7:00 p.m.

Why Go: Students from the various music groups of Chaminade High School will be performing solo pieces. Different students will be performing each night. 

Pricing: Free

2. 

Where/When: , Saturday and Sunday, May 28 and 29, at 1 and 3 p.m.

Why Go: Sit back, relax and enjoy films from the 2010 Brooklyn Film Festival’s kidsfilmfest. 

Pricing: Free with museum admission ($5 Theater only)

3. 

Where/When: Jones Beach State Park, Saturday and Sunday, May 28 and 29, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Why Go: Fans will be treated to performances from the world’s most elite military and civilian pilots including the T-6 and T-34 U.S. Navy Aircrafts which will travel to Long Island to represent the United States Navy and its 100 years of protecting American soil.

There will also be a special, rare performance from the U.S. Air Force F22 Raptor Stealth Jet Fighter, known by far as the best and most expensive fighter jet in the world, with its advanced combination of stealth, speed, agility and unparalleled precision.

Pricing: Free to the public, but the standard $10 vehicle use fee will be collected each day upon entry to the State Park.

4. Crafts for Kids

Where/When: Lakeshore Learning, every Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Why Go: Put little hands to work every Saturday and Sunday with fun craft activities. Ideal for kids ages 3 and up.

5. Tubby the Tuba

Where/When: Old Westbury Gardens, Saturday, May 28 at 3:30 p.m.

Why Go: Come see Tubby the Tuba at the Long Island Mozart Festival at Old Westbury Gardens. Kids can get a nostalgic introduction to the instruments of the orchestra. 

Pricing: $10; $8 seniors; $5 children 7-17; children 6 and under free
