Luso American Riders Holds Bike Blessing

Fr. Tomaz Gomide joins with almost 40 bikers for annual "blessing of the bikes" at Corpus Cristi Church.

The following article was posted by Geoffrey Walter. It was written by the Luso American Riders Group.

This past Sunday afternoon Luso American Riders Group President Tony De Pinho led a pack of almost 40 motorcycles from the club's home-base Mineola Portuguese Center to Corpus Christi Church where Fr. Tomaz Gomide held a mass outside the church to pray for their safety this riding season.

The bikes, lined in single file, stretched almost half-way from Willis Avenue down Garfield Avenue as Fr. Tomaz said a prayer at each motorcycle during the roughly 30-minute ceremony. With dozens of residents lined up outside their homes to take photos and video with their phones, the group returned to the Mineola Portuguese Center where they enjoyed a traditional Portuguese feast and honored father Tomaz as an honorary member.

"It was a moving ceremony and my thanks goes out to Corpus Cristi Church and father Tomaz for all their support," De Pinho said, "it could not have gone any better."
