Assemblyman Tom McKevitt recently held a car seat safety check in conjunction with the Nassau County Traffic Safety Board to inspect and ensure the proper use of car seats, booster seats and safety belts to prevent injuries to children of all ages.
About 20 attendees took advantage of the opportunity.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, “motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among children ages two to 14, due in large part to the nonuse or improper use of child seats and safety belts.”
In a statement McKevitt said that “I’m happy to work with the Traffic Safety Board to ensure that children in our community stay safe. It may seem like such a simple thing, but many people are not sure how to properly install their car seats, so this program is a great opportunity for motorists to learn proper use.”
