Mineola Junior Firefighters Return to Germany

Junior firefighter members embark on nine day exchange program to Hamburg, Germany.

Members of the arose early Sunday morning, not for any alarm, but to get a head start on an afternoon trip to Germany as part of an with the Hamburg-Stellinger Fire Department, Mineola’s sister fire department on the other side of the Atlantic.

The exchange program grew from a simple cordial gesture advisor Bill Gresalfi made by signing the online guestbooks of fire departments from around the world in July, 2005.

After being dropped off at Newark International airport, the juniors and their German counterparts will be visiting the cities of Berlin and Hamburg, where there will be all day training at the Hamburg Fire Academy as well as other activities.

The Mineola Patch will also be featuring daily trip updates and photos sent in from the junior firefighters from their trip overseas.
