Mineola Lions Donate $12K to Winthrop Diabetes Center

Mineola club has donated $100,000 to hospital since 2007.

Members of the Edward Smith Mineola Lions Club recently gathered in support of the Diabetes Education Center at Winthrop-University Hospital to present two charitable donations totaling $12,000.

A final pledge payment for $10,000 was directed to Winthrop’s Pre-Diabetes Intervention Program – a unique program designed to promote lifestyle changes among those with pre-diabetes and stem the rise in type 2 diabetes. With this donation, the Mineola Lions Club fulfills its $100,000 pledge made in 2007, which funded the creation of the Pre-Diabetes Program at Winthrop.

A separate $2,000 donation will support the Center’s Kids Interested in Diabetes (KIDS) Program – an interactive educational program designed to teach children ages seven to 12 about diabetes through games and activities.
