Day eight of the Mineola Junior Firefighters' 2011 trip to Germany.

On the eighth day of their as part of an exchange program with the Hamburg-Stellingen Junior Fire Department, the Mineola Junior Firefighters became the first junior fire department from another country to ever to train at the Hamburg Fire Academy.

Under the academy instructors, the juniors were able to do hose training simulating several fire alarms alongside the German junior fire fighters.

The two junior companies conducted a rescue drill, locating a victim and pulling him to safety. They also worked with a German fire boat used for training at the academy.

While at the academy the juniors had a chance to see and work with Hamburg’s fire equipment. Many of the juniors found that the tools and trucks of their German counterparts were basically the same with the German trucks being smaller and more compact.

The junior firefighters also had the opportunity to go up in a German boom truck that soars to 153 feet.
