No. 69 - Help Take a Bite Out of Hunger

Ways to help feed starving Long Island residents for National Hunger Awareness Month.

Throughout the year people should be cognizant of the alarming number of Long Islanders that go to bed hungry each night.

In a recent study, 285,000 Long Islanders are at risk for starvation. To make matters more frightening, almost 110,000 of the number represents children.

Even though donations should be made year-round, in honor of National Hunger Awareness Month during September, is offering an incentive to encourage food collections.

From September 12-16, the Long Island locations will be accepting donations of non-perishable foods at their stores. To make it even more enticing, customers who drop off one or more items before 11 a.m. get treated to a free grilled breakfast sandwich.

Last year the restaurant chain collected a record amount of 2,200 pounds of food. This year they hope to collect even more.
