No. 74 - Collecting Back-to-School Supplies

Help struggling families by collecting and donating school supplies.

In the heat of summer it isn't hard to forget the “S” word that many children dread.

But sooner or later parents will receive a memo in the mail listing the back-to-school supplies needed for the upcoming school year. Even though there are still a few more weeks before summer starts winding down, when you begin preparing for the school year think about ways you can help someone in need by donating school supplies and clothing.

From now until September 13, The Family & Children’s Association is collecting new or barely used back-to-school supplies and clothing. If you have backpacks, notebooks, crayons, paper and other supplies that show little signs of wear, donate them to help disadvantaged Nassau families prepare for another school year.

For more than 15 years, local community members have risen to the occasion to bring in supplies and clothing that they no longer need. Joyce Mullen, Director of Marketing and Communications says she hopes this year will be no different.

You can drop off items in the lobby between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. or go up to Suite 25 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. If you are interested in learning more about ways to help you can reach Ms. Mullen at 516-746-0350 ext. 335.
