Patch Picks: Fun on the Fourth of July

Here are five ways to have fun on Independence Day weekend.

People will be in the red, white and blue holiday spirit for Independence Day. For many Americans, the holiday is celebrated outdoors with close friends and family. To recognize America’s great strides in the 235 years since her birth, here are a few ways to celebrate without traveling too far.

Music at Memorial Park

To kick off the July 4th weekend, the  celebrating their 28th summer concert season at . This will be the first of a two-part summer concert series and they they will be playing light classical music mixed with some more popular music.

For the third year in a row, Eisenhower Park will be home to a firework spectacular. There will be music performed by popular tribute bands and a Grucci fireworks display that will light up the sky. Only people with tickets will be able to attend and isn’t too late to get tickets for the show they are available at TD Banks on Long Island.

Summer Carnival

Carnivals are a summer favorite for many of us. Christopher Morley Park is hosting a Summer Carnival for local residents and visitors through Fourth of July weekend. There will be food vendors, games, rides and fun thrills for you and your family to take part in.

  • When: Wednesday June 29 and Thursday, June 30: 6-10 p.m.; Friday, July 1: 6-11 p.m.; Saturday, July 2: 5-11 p.m.

Traditional Fourth of July

Celebrate Fourth of July the traditional way, the way Long Island residents did in the 19th century. Old Bethpage Village Restoration will be “turning back time” to commemorate Fourth of July the way it would have been after the end of the Civil War. To recognize the nation’s anniversary, there will be a traditional parade. Following, there will be a baseball game to recreate the excitement during the Brooklyn and Queens games of the late 1880s. The game will feature some members from the Mineola Washingtons and they will be complying with the old rules and uniforms of the era!

Glen Cove Fireworks

Join the city of Glen Cove during the annual Fourth of July celebration. There will be musical entertainment in addition to a holiday fireworks display.
