Patch Picks: Hungry for a Hobby

Here are a few suggestions of activities you might enjoy doing.

There are numerous hobbies in the world; too many to mention here. Believe it or not, many people struggle with finding a hobby or something they enjoy doing. In this edition of Patch Picks here are some suggestions of places to go or things to do in and around Mineola, many of which are free or that you may not have even thought of before.

Reading

The trick to reading is finding a good book but also finding a quiet, calm place without distractions. The theme for this summer’s reading program at the  is “Novel Destinations.” Travel through words and books while reading with your imagination.

You don't need a fancy camera to start capturing candid moments, places and objects. Go for a nature walk around your neighborhood, a local park or choose a theme for your photos. It’s about creativity and letting your artsy side take over. You'd be surprised at how quickly time passes.

Exercising

For many adults, exercise is a quick escape and relief from everyday stressors. If you are into running, go for an early jog before the sun rises. For motivation and support, the meets during the week and always welcomes new runners. If running isn’t for you, try a group workout class at a local gym or studio. The easiest way not to let yourself down is to set realistic goals.

Scrapbooking

Summer is the perfect time to sort through old pictures, important keepsakes and notes that you have saved during the year. Get crafty and preserve your treasures is by digging out your scissors, glue and buy a special book from a local craft store.

Volunteering

Some people get enjoyment out of helping someone else. Volunteering is very rewarding especially when the time you put forth is recognized and appreciated.
