Patch Picks: Making Father’s Day Special

It's that time of year again; get a head start on ideas for Dad with a few local suggestions.

Father’s Day is the third Sunday in June – the 19th, in case you were wondering – and while many wait until the last minute, here are some ideas of ways to spend the day if you want to plan in advance and opt out of the traditional tie.

What are his interests? What will he appreciate? How do you make it special? When should you make arrangements? Where is the perfect place to go?

Many people might feel that spa-ing is more of a woman’s thing to do, but really who wouldn't want to be pampered? If there was any day for dad to get away with a spa treatment, it would definitely be Father’s Day.

Places to go

Depending on the weather, spend Father’s Day outdoors and take a trip to . Choose an activity to take advantage of the warm weather we have been having: ride bikes, have a catch, play on the playground and swings to give Dad an opportunity to be out with the kids, something he may normally not have the opportunity to do when he is working during the week.

Though it might take some extra preparation, plan a picnic by packing a few lunches, throw in a few of dad’s favorite snacks, bring some cold drinks in a cooler and be sure not to forget the blanket.

Things to do

Going for brunch has always been a traditional way to spend Father’s Day. Although not for everyone, some dads do enjoy it. Make reservations in advance and treat him to a delicious feast!

If games are more up his alley, try and take advantage of the Sunday Special. From 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. everyone bowls for $1 per game with a $5 per person cover. The special is also offered for night owls between 6 and 11 p.m. If you are bowling during the day it is $5.45 for each game and shoes are $4.45. Families can also take advantage of the pizza and bowl combo for $74 which includes a family with up to six people on one lane and a pizza.

Allow dad to work on his swing or just play for fun at . Although there are no Father’s Day Specials, for $8 play 21 holes and for $7 play 18 holes.

Many dads appreciate the sentimental gift of a framed picture. It is a simple yet special way to tell him how much you love him and it will remind him how special everyone is each time he looks at it.

If he enjoys barbequing, pick up some new tools for the grill at a home goods store.
