The National Education Association (NEA) first recognized Read Across America on March 2, 1998. The day is celebrated to encourage children to read. According to researchers, children who are motivated and spend more time reading do better in school. We acknowledge Read Across America Day as one to read and to remember the inspirational Dr. Seuss’s birthday – an advocator of reading and writing.
