Patch Picks: Staying Fit in Mineola

While going to the gym is one way to stay in shape, there are alternatives right in Mineola.

Let’s face it: in some way or another we’re all obsessed with fitness. We either trying to stay in shape, get into shape or simply out of shape. Everyone knows about the big-box gyms, but there are some other training centers where you can still get a good workout just in time for that summer shape.

Being comfortable is the number one priority at Fitness Figures, a women-only gym. This smaller scale fitness center attracts those people looking to workout without having to travel far.

Owner Debbie Krzyminski is a personal trainer and nutritionist on site who offers one-on-one training. Circuit training for those members looking to focus on all areas of the body by rotating between stations.

There is also stationary equipment including an elliptical and stationary bike machine for people who wish to work at their own pace. Group classes such as Zumba, body sculpting, kick boxing and pilates are some of workouts offered in the mornings and evenings.

  • Hours: Monday to Thursday: 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.; Friday: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Sunday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Experience a non-traditional way to workout out, burn calories while learning the skills for self-defense. Many people who sign up for Tae Kwon Do are usually interested in learning skills but find out soon after the fun involved in learning.  Different classes are offered for both children, teenagers and adults.

After Memorial Day when the Village Pool opens, swimming can be a relaxing way to stay fit. Aside from cooling off on a hot day, swimming laps is an alternative to machine training that will provide you will a full body, cardio workout. If you are a Mineola resident and haven’t yet registered for a Leisure Pass that will give you access to the pool facilities, you can go ahead and do so by visiting the Village website and printing out a copy of the application online.

If you are looking for a change in both your workout style and body, the trainers at Studio 360 are confident they can help you. This is not your typical gym, rather it is a lifestyle studio that has no treadmills, elliptical or common lifting equipment. Instead they believe in endurance and conditioning bootcamp to strengthen your mind while toning your body.

  • Hours: Tuesday to Friday: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Personal Training Institute

From the moment you walk in the door you are not alone. Personal Training Institute offers a full body workout with 30 minute sessions of one-on-one training. They recently added group classes including zumba, kick boxing and Bootcamp that are offered during different times of the week.
