Project Independence Offers Spring Programs for Seniors

Project Independence, the Town of North Hempstead program that aims to help senior citizens age in place, has announced the following programs for spring.  

Fridays-May 9, 16, 30

Exercise for Balance and Strength to Reduce Falls-Beginner’s Class

Presented by Winthrop University Hospital.  Join this FREE four week program and learn how to improve your balance and strength, and reduce falls. The course is at the North Hempstead “Yes We Can” Community Center, 141 Garden Street, Westbury on Friday, May 2, 9, 16, and 30 from 10:00am to 11:00am.  North Hempstead Project Independence invites all Town residents 60 and over. Presented by Winthrop University. Come and learn from experts how to maintain your sense of balance and strength through exercise. Please join us for this four week course at the North Hempstead “Yes We Can” Community Center, 141 Garden Street, Westbury- Friday, May 2, 9, 16, 30, 2014 from 11:30am-12:30pm.  North Hempstead Project Independence invites all Town residents 60 and over. You must have completed the beginner’s class before registering for the advanced next steps class. Participants must wear comfortable clothing, secure footwear and bring a bottle of water. Stepping On Fall Prevention Program 

Learn simple and fun balance and strengthening exercises to prevent falls. Guest speakers include physical therapists, a vision expert, a pharmacist and an expert on getting around your community safely. Please join us for this seven-week course at the Roslyn Community Center, 53 Orchard Street, Roslyn Heights on Tuesday, May 6 to Tuesday, June 17 from 1-3 p.m.  North Hempstead Project Independence invites all Town residents 60 and over. Walk Talk

Presented by Ruth Albright, Fitness Trainer & Award Winning Marathon Runner. Come and hear practical tips on creating a safe walking regimen that is enjoyable, and an easy way to exercise!
