Raising Relief for the Land of the Rising Sun

Shiro of Japan will hold fundraiser event on April 11 to support Japanese tsunami victims.

Shiro of Japan, the Japanese hibachi steakhouse in Carle Place, has been a longtime supporter of the worldwide community by many actions such as raising funds for victims of Katrina and the Indonesian tsunami.

Following the events of the 8.9 earthquake and ensuing tsunami, restaurant co-owner Hiro Ishikawa said that “this time it’s much more personal to me and to the Shiro of Japan family. We are asking the community to be generous to the people of the country where I was born and raised.”

On Monday, April 11, from 6:30 to 9 p.m., the restaurant will hold “RELIEF – JAPAN,” a fund-raiser to support the relief measures taking place in the land of the rising sun. The money raised will be donated to the Japanese American Lions Clubs Charities Inc. who will send the funds directly to Japan and the disaster area through Lions Club International (LCIF).

“I have personal friends who are members of the New York Japanese-American Lions Club and through them we became aware of the Lions Club International Fund,” Ishikawa said. “It is a widely respected organization that has a history of supporting humanitarian projects.”

In addition to lots of authentic Japanese cuisine – featuring sushi, hibachi, passed appetizers and sake samplings – the event will include drawings for gift baskets and prizes.
