Schimel Receives Geraldine A. Ferraro Award

Assemblywoman honored by Nassau Women's Democratic Caucus.

In celebration of Women’s History Month, Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel was recently honored at The Women of New York luncheon hosted by The Nassau Women’s Democratic Caucus and East End Dem Women PAC. Hon. Judith A. Jacobs, Nassau County Legislator and former presiding officer, presented the Geraldine A. Ferraro Award for Courage and Grace to both Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel and the Chief Deputy Suffolk County Executive, Regina M. Calcaterra.

, a friend of Schimel and a fellow gun control activist, was a featured guest at the luncheon. Vivian Viloria-Fisher, former Suffolk County Legislator, was another guest speaker at the luncheon.

“Geraldine Ferraro changed the dynamic of politics for all women. What an honor to receive this award in her name. My hope for the future is that many more women will step up to the political plate for a swing at the ballot box,” Schimel said in a statement.
