SUNY Old Westbury Hosts 10th Annual Polo Match

Fundraiser to benefit Long Island's open spaces.

The State University of New York (SUNY) College at Old Westbury hosted its 10th Annual Summer Polo Match and Lawn Party this past Sunday at Hickox Field in Old Westbury. The championship polo event was a fundraiser to support academic and programmatic enhancements at the college, while also honoring those who advocate for the preservation of Long Island’s open spaces.

Since its inception, the polo match has been provided by Meadowbrook Polo Club, the oldest polo club in America. A children’s tent with an array of activities for toddlers to pre-teens was also set up for families to visit.

In addition to the polo match, the 2011 Theodore Roosevelt Preservation Award was presented to Babylon Town Supervisor Steve Bellone. The award was created in 2004 to honor individuals and organizations that are committed to conservation efforts and causes for future generations.
