What Northporter Made a Difference in 2012?

Nominate your Northport neighbors for Patch's list of people who mattered this year.

Northport is filled with special people who make a difference, people who make an impact on our lives on a regular, sometimes daily, basis.

There are teachers, business owners, volunteers, public officials, clergy members.

Northport Patch is compiling a list of 10 local people who mattered in 2012. We need your help. See last year's top ten here.

Nominate candidates in the comment section below, tweet@NptPatch or write on our Facebook page.

Please give us the person's name and the reason they belong on this list. Last year's greatest person of the year winner was local business man and community activist Artie Berke. Previous winners are not eligible this year.

The list will run the last week in December as part of our Year in Review series.

I would like to nominate Carol, owner of Just Dogs Gourmet in East Northport. This is a woman who changed careers to do what she loves. Carol is ALWAYS doing some type of fundraiser in her store to help animals in need. This woman is selfless and puts her heart into her business and customers. I'm pretty sure she makes just enough money to get by but it is very clear she is more than wealthy with love and support from her customers! Please consider this amazing lady as a Northporter that made a difference in 2012!

Charlotte Koons; after more than 35 years on Eaton's Neck as an educator and activist she is still helping the community --and world--in so many ways. One example is her volunteer work at Hospice House in E. Northport, which has become an extended family at Thanksgiving and other holidays.

I'd like to Nominate Shelley Pierce. Not only is she a great friend, but devoted Northport Resident. During the hurricane, she opened her doors to my family and many others for hot showers, meals, movies on the couch & charging all devices. As a Realtor she is a light that brings new families to the area and helps those already Established here in Northport with relocation or upgrade. She is a devoted mother, an active PTA Mom as well as a Daisy Scout Leader. She is active in her church and teaches Sunday School and religion to the children of her Parish. If you have the pleasure of knowing her, you are such a lucky person. She is a true Northporter!
