Broadway Bound Celebrates the Holidays at Mineola High School

The dance group's holiday concert raised money for its team, which competes at the national level.

The Garden City and Valley Stream-based  had its fifth annual holiday concert and fundraiser Saturday night at the . Proceeds from the night, including ticket sales and money from the raffles at the end of the night, went toward the group's dancers that compete at the national competition in Hershey Park.

There were 21 routines, four of which were related to "The Nutcracker" including the "March of the Toy Soldier," "Sugar Plum Fairies," "Waltz of the Flowers" and "Dance of the Flutes." All of the performances featured both male and female dancers from a wide age range, with even the adult and parent team dancing.

This was the first year the dance school has a musical theater group. Director Debbie Tavernese said she made this addition to the school because a lot of other competition teams also feature this kind of group and because it was in demand. The musical theater company sang and danced to the song "My Favorite Things" from "The Sound of Music."
