LI Children's Museum Thanksgiving Break Activities: Russian Duo Workshop and Performance

The provides fun family activities for all age groups during the Thanksgiving break. Families can come see "Toys: The Inside Story" at the Museum until Jan 2. This traveling exhibit features 12 hands-on stations featuring the basics of common toys, including pulleys, cams, gears, linkages and circuits. Toys: The Inside Story was created by Montshire Museum of Science and funded by the National Science Foundation. Local exhibit support provided by Astoria Federal Savings.

Come to the Children's Museum on Nov. 28  for a Russian Duo program. At 1 p.m., a workshop will be held where you'll learn a famous Russian folk dance, "Troika," and then perform it with live music. "Troika" is Russian for three-horse drawn carriage. In the Troika dance you pretend to be a prancing horse pulling a sleigh. Workshop is for ages 4 and up.

At 3 p.m., join us in the LICM Theater for a Performance, where you'll learn about a Russian stringed instrument called a "balalaika." The audience is an essential part of this concert as they join Oleg and Terry on stage to sing and play music on traditional Russian percussion instruments. Performance is for ages 3 and up.
