LI Children's Museum Thanksgiving Break Activities: Carousel Spinners

The Long Island Children's Museum provides fun family activities for all age groups during the Thanksgiving break. Families can come see "Toys: The Inside Story" at the Museum until Jan 2. This traveling exhibit features 12 hands-on stations featuring the basics of common toys, including pulleys, cams, gears, linkages and circuits. Toys: The Inside Story was created by Montshire Museum of Science and funded by the National Science Foundation. Local exhibit support provided by Astoria Federal Savings.

Come to the Children's Museum on Nov. 26 at 3 p.m. for Carousel Spinners.

The button spinner is an example of one of the earliest whirligigs, objects that spin or whirl. String is threaded through a button and then twisted on each end to make the button spin. Native Americans created their own versions from clay, bone and strips of animal hide. Come craft your own spinner with a whimsical carousel theme at the Toys: The Inside Story exhibit.
