LICM December Break Activities: Flute Sweets and Tickletoons - Green Golly and the Treasure of Light

The holiday season is here once again which means that kids across Long Island are off from school. The Long Island Children's Museum has come up with several solutions to that ever-nagging question – what are we going to do with the kids for the break week?

Toys are on kids minds at this time of year, and appropriately enough are front and center at the Children's Museum as well.  Families will get their final chance to explore Toys: The Inside Story, the traveling exhibit on display at the Children's Museum before it leaves town on January 2. Peek inside some common toys while exploring the basics of pulleys, cams, gears, linkages, and circuits. Twelve different hands-on stations are featured illustrating the simple mechanisms commonly found in toys, and lets visitors create their own toy-like combinations.  Exhibits are free form and open-ended; offering visitors the opportunity to figure out how to spin a ballerina, free "Jack" from his box and make Elmo© dance.  Toys: The Inside Story was created by Montshire Museum of Science and funded by the National Science Foundation. Local exhibit support provided by Astoria Federal Savings.

Workshops and theater programs are planned to satisfy any age group. The week ends with LICM's annual Countdown to 12! New Year's Eve event.

Join us for a holiday fable with razzamatazz; escape the witch's tower and go on tour with Green Golly as she uncovers the "treasure of light."  Travel on an adventure as she finds a magical chest filled with dusty old scrolls of music. When played, the music magically transports her to cultures and holidays around the world.
