This is a big week over at the Sands Point Preserve.

On Saturday, the Friends of Sands Point Preserve are presenting The Gold Gala – a James Bond-inspired evening to benefit cultural arts programming at the preserve. Then on May 8, the glitterati descend again on the preserve’s Hempstead House for the is Gold Coast International Film Festival’s invitation-only post-screening party of Baz Luhrmann’s “The Great Gatsby” starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

Sands Point Preserve's Executive Director Jean-Marie Posner is taking it all in stride.

"Big parties and cultural events were the norm for the Guggenheim's lifestyle in the heyday of this Gold Coast mansion - when the cultural arts were exploding right here on the estate,” she said. “Holding two great social events - the Gold Gala and "The Great Gatsby" Screening Party - in the first week of May 2013 is a perfect re-creation of that time period - and a signal of outstanding programs to come."

While the Gatsby party is private, one lucky winner can gain entry to both the screening and the festivities after thanks to a film festival contest.   But tickets are still available for the Gold Gala. We hear it will feature sexy “Gouldfinger Girls” – after all, the preserve is the place of Castle Gould – who will be dressed in head-to-toe gold.

The night will also feature “DJ Afro” playing all of the great Bonds songs; a Shirley Basey impersonator; themed food stations based on the classic films: For Your Eyes Only (Greek foods); Octopussy (Cuban foods); The Spy Who Loved me (Moroccan foods); and Moonraker (all French desserts) – and an Astin Martin will take up one of the parking spots in front of Hempstead House.  The signature cocktail?  The Vesper martini from Casino Royale – 'shaken, not stirred…'
