Bites Nearby: Hick’s Nurseries Gardener’s Cafe

Stop and smell the roses… and the coffee and scones.

Restaurants in garden centers are the norm at commercial nurseries in Europe, particularly England, but here on Long Island they are rare. However at Hicks Nurseries in Westbury, shoppers and visitors to the store can stop in at their Gardener’s Cafe and enjoy a light breakfast, lunch or a snack.

Hicks Nursery Café – The home-style Gardener’s Cafe welcomes all. The café offers muffins and scones that are baked on premise, plus rolls, bagels and other pastries. One soup – such as chicken noodle, beef barley or Manhattan clam chowder – is made each day. There is quiche, hotdogs, and a variety of sandwiches, wraps and salads.

Fresh baked pies are a specialty and a whole pie can be ordered for take-home. Herbal and regular tea is available and coffee choices are regular, decaf, espresso, cappuccino and latte. The coffee is roasted specially for the café at a Bleecker Street coffee shop and beans are fresh ground.
