Bites Nearby: Hildebrandt’s

Homemade chocolates and ice cream in long-time favorite locale.

A throwback to yesteryear, Hildebrandt’s is a Long Island favorite for ice cream and other treats. The luncheonette opened in 1927 and since 1974 it has been owned and operated by the Strano family.

Be sure to set your DVR’s as Hildebrandt’s is also going to be featured on the Food Network show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives on Monday, March 28, at 9 p.m.

Hildebrandt’s – They make their own candy, ice cream (26 flavors) and syrups and whipped cream. In addition to luncheonette special such as burgers and grilled cheese sandwiches there is an extensive dinner menu that includes dishes such as pasta a la mama (rigatoni with cauliflower, cheese and bread crumbs) and breaded chicken cutlet with a sauce of tomatoes (plain and sundried, garlic, basil and asiago cheese). There is counter top dining on swivel stools in addition to tables.
