Poll: Vacant Blockbuster Video in Mineola

What would you like to see fill the vacant space left by Blockbuster?

For scores of Mineola residents, the store on Jericho Turnpike was a comfort zone to rent movie videos and browse new releases.

But when the parent company filed for bankruptcy on Sept. 23, 2010 and was subsequently taken over at auction by the Dish Network, store closings by the hundreds soon followed.

The Blockbuster Video at 500 Jericho Turnpike was apparently one of those designated for closing, though was not among any of the stores recently listed for closing. The Mineola location shut its doors sometime around election day.

The Mineola locale offers ample parking, is near to Jericho Turnpike, and is attached on one end to the shopping center featuring .

The 6,500 sq. ft. property that used to be Blockbuster is available for lease or rent.

In Monday’s Patch question, we want to hear what business you would like to see fill the vacancy? What store do you think would work in this location, one block from the intersection of Jericho Turnpike and Herricks Road.

Patch will regularly spotlight vacant commercial properties in effort to initiate a discussion within the community about alternative uses for these abandoned places. If you’d like to know more about a specific property, please also comment below.

I'm sorry Marie but there is no information about when the project will actually start. TheRead More developer had requested an extension from the board at a previous meeting and we do not know of a firm start date. When we do receive one, we will most certainly publish it.
