Review: Piccola Bussola Offers Food for the Whole Family

Family-style restaurant brings fresh and authentic southern Italian cuisine to Mineola.

Overview: For the past seven years Piccola Bussola has been serving Mineola with quality family styled dinners. Tony Lubrano, one of four sons who continue their family's legacy.

The first La Bussola Ristorante was opened thirty years ago by the late Passquale Lubrano who brought his cooking talent all the way from a small Island off of Naples. The second restaurant to grace the family name was opened 17 years ago in Huntington, followed by Mineola's Piccola Bussola. 

Jericho Turnpike was chosen because of its location and this Piccola Bussola is double the size of the other two restaurants which allows for private parties in their 90 seat room.

Decor: The first room you walk into is filled with beautiful pictures and a huge fully stocked bar and immense wine collection.  The restaurant aims to bring an intimate piece of Mediterranean Italy to the dining experience with low lighting, close tables and still-life paintings on the walls.

Entrees: Almost every menu item is a variation on an old family recipe.  The dishes are meant to feed even the two hungriest of people. Dishes ranging from $8.95 to a $52.95 Steak Siciliano, which is grilled all natural Black Angus steak topped with freshly crushed garlic and bread crumbs that will feed almost three people.

The Penne Pasquale ($22.95), which is named after the restaurant's founder, is a appointed pasta dish that is loaded with peas, mushrooms, asparagus and pancetta. The dish comes out steaming, as the waiter approached you could smell the fresh tomato sauce and a hint of freshly cut asparagus. 

Service: As you walk into the restaurant you are greeted by friendly staff that will help you quickly get a table.
