Stepping in and Experiencing Portugal

Portuguese fine dining in the heart of Long Island.

As you approach the building where the Heart of Portugal stands you notice a wood hand-carved sign, a welcoming indication that equal care is taken with their meals and customers the eatery serves.

As you open the door to the Dining Room, the staff will usually be able to find a table for you immediately unless it's a busy night when the lounge is used as a wait area with live music and drinks.

Upon entering the dining area you feel that you are stepping into a different world. The room gives off a distinctly old European feel complete with a huge painted mural of the Portuguese countryside. Owner and head chef Avelino Pinto said the mural "depicts the life of the Portuguese people with it's view of the mountains, ocean and port life." He adds that the scene encompasses all the basics and essentials to life in Portugal since these different land and water features is what makes life in Portugal beautiful and special.

The nautical theme is clearly evident in the décor. The ceiling has a series of swirls and wispy movements that give a feel of the while model boats, flowers and a nicely mounted shark are spread about the room. Even the napkins are folded into half moon shapes. A baby grand piano is nestled at the back of the room and on weekends there is a pianist playing light music during diner. When there is no piano player an air of light jazz and conversations permeates the restaurant. The low lighting adds to the relaxed atmosphere.

The whole experience from Heart of Portugal is like stepping into small town in old Europe. The staff furthers the experience by being completely versed on the menu and their attentiveness makes patrons feel at home. You feel welcome from the second you enter the door.
