Where’s the Fair?

Mineola street fair cancelled on account of rain.

Mineola residents found themselves walking around the downtown area with a puzzled look on their faces Sunday.

The  was supposed to have been held in the . There was a tent set up across the street from  for guests. Despite vehicles lining the street, there was no “Festival of Cars” as had been advertised.

One father with his two children in tow was seen checking his smartphone looking for any information about the fair. Maybe they got the times wrong? Had they read Sunday instead of Saturday? Slowly word spread from the businesses on Main Street to the pedestrians that the fair was canceled. Why? “Rain,” one woman working behind the counter at  signed to residents through the storefront glass.

Late Saturday night an e-mail was reportedly sent out by the  stating that the fair had been canceled on account of the inclement forecast. The only problem was that the rain never came.

According to the flier for the fair, the rain date is October 2, but many business leaders fear that the damage has been done. Numerous amounts of money were spent promoting the fair and  at . It is not known how much money village businesses may have lost in the cancellation of the fair.

“Unfortunately the weather didn’t turn out the way it is today,” owner and chamber member Steve Ford said late Sunday afternoon. “We had to make the call and that was it.”

Ford added that chamber members would be spnding the next four or five days contacting business owners  “to let them know it’s still on for next week.”

I'm sorry Marie but there is no information about when the project will actually start. TheRead More developer had requested an extension from the board at a previous meeting and we do not know of a firm start date. When we do receive one, we will most certainly publish it.
