U.S. News & World Report released the results of its 2012-13 national survey of the country’s best hospitals and children’s hospitals.
As a whole, was ranked as the No. 16 hospital in New York State and the Winthrop Children’s Medical Center also achieved nationally ranked status in two areas.
The children’s hospital report surveyed more than 178 children’s hospitals, obtaining data in 10 areas and asking 150 pediatric specialists in each specialty where they would send the children who were the most seriously ill.
The pediatric categories surveyed were cancer, cardiology & heart surgery, diabetes & endocrinology, gastroenterology, neonatology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology and urology.
For the Winthrop Children’s Medical Center, the national rankings are as follows:
- diabetes and endocrinology – No. 24
- urology – No. 48
Winthrop as a whole achieved silver “high-performing” rankings in 11 areas, including cancer, cardiology & heart surgery, ear, nose & throat, gastroenterology, geriatrics, gynecology, nephrology, neurology & neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology and urology.
