Jan. 16: MLK, Now Hiring and Hockey

Here are some of the events going on around Mineola.

Hooray for the three-day weekend! On this day we pay tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King and the strides he made for civil rights in this country. While everyone else has off, we do know a few things that are going on around town.

Here’s what else you need to know:

1. Today is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day and the as well as other governmental agencies and the will be closed due to the Federal holiday. This week will feature a holiday collection schedule: if your normal collection days are Monday and Thursday, garbage will be collected on Tuesday and Thursday. If your normal collection days are Tuesday and Friday, garbage will be collected on Wednesday and Friday. Recycling, rubbish and newspaper collection will remain unchanged. Compost collection will be moved to Friday, Jan. 20.

2. It’s Monday and we once again have your local job roundup for Mineola in our weekly “” feature.

3. The Chaminade hockey team is skating against Msgr. Farrell tonight at Flushing Rink. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
