LIRR Service from Mineola Reduced on August Weekends

Long Island Rail Road customers will have to face a series of cancellations and schedule adjustments during the four weekends in August as crews undertake a “track modernization project” on the main line at the .

According to the LIRR, crews will be installing a new running rail, resurfacing and making repairs at the Willis Ave. grade crossing on all weekends. Two tracks will be out of service while work is being done.

Over the weekends of August 6-7 and August 13-14, the track work will commence Saturday at 12:43 a.m. and continue until 10 a.m. Sunday.

On the weekends of August 20-21 and August 27-28, the track work will start Saturday at 12:39 a.m. and continue until 10 a.m. Sunday.

The schedule changes will affect the Huntington-Port Jefferson, Oyster Bay, Ronkonkoma, Far Rockaway and Babylon branches as follows:

Huntington Branch

Service on the Huntington Branch will be hourly instead of half-hourly and some trains will be adjusted earlier by three minutes.

Port Jefferson Branch

Port Jefferson Branch trains will run every two hours instead of every 90 minutes. Customers can also expect an increase in travel time of 2-3 minutes.

Oyster Bay Branch

Oyster Bay Branch trains have been adjusted to run every two hours.

Babylon Branch

Babylon Branch trains departing Penn Station on Saturdays at 7:40 a.m., 8:40 a.m., 9:40 a.m. and 11:40 a.m. can expect an increase in travel time of eight minutes. Sunday trains departing Penn Station at 7:40 a.m. and 8:40 a.m. will also increased travel time of eight minutes.

Ronkonkoma Branch

On Sundays, the 12:16 a.m. train to Ronkonkoma has been adjusted 14 minutes later. Also on Saturdays, customers on the 11:21 p.m. train from Ronkonkoma can expect an increase in travel time of up to 5 minutes.

Far Rockaway Branch

On Sundays, the 12:16 a.m. train from Penn Station, which normally connects to the Far Rockaway train at Jamaica is adjusted. Far Rockaway customers should board the 12:01 a.m. Babylon train at Penn Station and change at Jamaica for the Far Rockaway connection.
