March 2: Read Across America, New Author and Nightlife

Here are some of the events going on around Mineola.

I will read it in a park, I will read it with a shark. I will read it on a train, I will even read it in the rain. I will read it on some hay or eating crayfish by the bay, I will read Patch every day.

We may be getting a little carried away with ourselves, but that’s only because a famous children’s author is celebrating a birthday today. See if you can guess ‘Who’ it is!

Here’s what else you need to know:

1. Today happens to be the 108th birthday of Dr. Seuss (bonus points if you know his real name – Theodore Geisel – without looking it up). As such, it’s Read Across America Day and there also happens to be a new movie out with the good doctor’s name on it. Tell us what your favorite Seuss book is in the comments!

2. Are you looking to get out and enjoy this weekend? Check out our  in and around Mineola.

3. Since we’re going mad about books today, here’s about a young man who recently co-authored his first book and had a “Ball” while doing it.

4. Want your voice to be heard? The Mineola Patch is looking for community members to blog on their favorite topics! Contact editor Geoffrey Walter at geoffrey@patch.com for more information!
