Mineola St. Patrick’s Day Parade to Take New Route in 2012

Route begins behind Nassau Courthouse and moves north up Mineola Boulevard.

The Annual Mineola-Garden City St. Patrick’s Day Parade will begin where it used to end this year, as the is planning a new route for the 62nd parade.

According to an article published on the website Irish Central:

It will begin where it used to end behind the on Old Country Road. Marchers will proceed north on County Seat Drive to Old Country Road where they will turn left. At Mineola Boulevard the parade will turn north into Mineola. Marchers will continue to Jericho Turnpike and will turn right onto the turnpike. The reviewing stand will be just east of the firehouse and the parade will end just one block south of our center at Jericho Turnpike and Willis Avenue.

Making the announcement of the changes was new Irish American Society President and parade chairman Patrick Kerins, explaining that part of the reason for the change was that the society’s office is located in Mineola.

“After many successful years in Garden City we are pleased to bring the parade to Mineola where our center is located,” said Kerins.

The parade’s began at Ninth Street and Franklin Avenue in Garden City before turning onto Franklin Avenue and marching north toward Mineola, turning right onto Old Country Road and heading east toward County Seat Drive, ending just after the review stand, which was located on the Garden City side of Old Country Road in front of the county office building.

Betty McLoughlin, who served as president of the society before Kerins, will lead the parade as Grand Marshall and be joined by aides Mary P. Coyne, Aileen Scott, Sean Treanor and Jeff Clark.
