Poll: Thanksgiving 2011 Travel Plans

How far are you traveling this year to celebrate the holiday?

The day before Thanksgiving is known as the busiest travel day in the United States. Airlines are clogged, trains packed, buses crowded and highways are jammed for numerous families getting to or going home to spend Turkey Day with loved ones and relations of all varying degrees.

According to AAA, travel for Thanksgiving is set to rise for the second straight year, with 90 percent making the trek by car. According to the report:

42.5 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more from home during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, a 4 percent increase from the 40.9 million people who traveled one year ago.

Those travelling by air will also increase 1.8 percent to 3.4 million total passengers.

For Wednesday’s Patch question, we want to know how far you are travelling this year to share some turkey with relatives, whether you are staying local, headed out of state, across the country (or if they’re all coming to your place).
