Question of the Day: How Are You Voting for the 2011-12 School Budget?

The daily question that asks what’s on the minds of Mineola residents.

Every community has its slate of problems, and it can be hard to prioritize what residents want fixed first. But everybody has something at the top of their lists.

For today’s “Question of the Day,” a new feature you will see on this site daily, we're asking you, the experts on your community, to tell us if you’ll be voting “yes” or “no” on the 2011-12 Mineola school budget and which candidates you will vote for on the board of education.

Yay? Nay? ? ? ? ? Let us know in the comments.

There is no question who to vote for - yes to the budget, yes to Hornberger, yes to Hale! A vote for Levitan is a vote for higher taxes and for throwing the district into chaos!

Hale - YES Hornberger - YES

Is it true that the Levitan people are violating electioneering laws at the polls?

The only way to vote~ YES! HORNBERGER & HALE

Levitan supporters were standing across the sidewalk in front of the entrance to Cross Street School. People entering the school were forced to walk around them (on the grass) to enter the school. They were holding pictures of Veronica Levitan and verbally encouraging people to vote Levitan. An official at the school used a ruler to move to crowd beyond the 100 foot boundary established by NY State electioneering laws.

Noticed something funny at the polls today. A lot of parasites I've never seen voted before suddenly turns up voting. You can tell they're parasites because they look like your typical two-faced civil "servants".

It took a lot of paddling, but the banjo music has stopped.

Reading the above comment about the election results means it is a good day for Mineola School District. And many Thanks to Hale, Hornberger, Napolitano and Dr. Nagler for their hard work in seeing this through.

I do not know what you mean by a "senior building." Please be more specific. If you areRead More talking about the Winston-Churchill project and not a senior assisted living facility, we have a small update here: http://mineola.patch.com/groups/politics-and-elections/p/flood-mitigation-apartment-projects-moving-forward

Funny how neither comment addressed John's point. A good one BTW...
JOHN HERLING May 30, 2013 at 04:26 pm
Vincent - I don't care what the cost per child is. The actual costs are for teacher andRead More administrator salaries, benefits, pensions etc. Patti - many of the parents and children are living in apartments and houses, some legally and some not, but definitely not in houses that they own. SLJ - Thank you!

Ms. Purdy: This is also a act that Mr. Herling should be refering to. An article in the WillistonRead More Times dated Friday May 24, 2013 states: "The Herricks Board of Education is hopeful that a bill drafted by state Sen. Jack Martins(R-Min) to financially penalize landlords who create illegal apartments will stop the practice in the Hericks school district. The bill in it's current form would empower the school district or a municipality in a school district to bring legal action against a landlord who creates an "unapproved conversion" of a single family or two family house to recoup the expense of educating children in those living situations in district shools." And if you don't think the same is happening in the Mineola School District I don't know what to say other than it's your tax money.
