Sept. 2: LI Bus Hearing, Obama Request and a Trip Through Time

Here are some of the stories going on in Garden City, Mineola and New Hyde Park.

Only a few measly hours until the long weekend. Until you’ve checked out (if you haven’t already) and headed out for a good 3 days (or four if you’re skipping out on work early). Either way, we here at the Patch will keep you company and help you through those final hours of work, catching you up with news about the Long Island Bus and a request from a local senator to President Obama. We’re also going to fire up the Wayback Machine for a trip through New Hyde Park History with a family that’s a staple of the village.

Here’s what else you need to know today:

1. With no public hearings yet held, Long Island Bus riders hosted their own meeting to find out more details from county legislators over plans to privatize LI Bus.

2. New York State Senator Kemp Hannon is making a request upon President Obama – to expand federal disaster funds available to Nassau County so home and business owners can apply for relief.

3. The New Hyde Park Patch takes a trip through time with a family whose history is intertwined with the village: the Sakowiches.

4. If you’re in the mood for some art, impressionist painter Patrick Antonelle has some of his works on display at the Sunflower Art Gallery in Garden City.
