23rd Annual Halloween Boat Burning

LI’s Largest Bonfire Event Also Features Halloween Costumes, Live Music & Boat Raffle

Each
year, the museum receives a donation of a large, wooden boat that is
beyond being repaired.  Loosely based on the Norse tradition of a Viking
funeral, the boat is placed in the center of the museum's property and
set ablaze by the West Sayville Fire Department to the delight of the many families in attendance.

This unique annual event has become a fall tradition in the community and

it's fun for the museum to host Long Island’s largest bonfire.  We also

will be raffling off a handmade wooden 10’ Lapstrake Rowing Skiff.  This

attractive boat, constructed by volunteers at the Museum’s Frank F. Penney Boat Shop, has excellent
qualities and is built of white cedar planking, steam bent oak ribs,
mahogany stem and transom, and bronze fasteners.  Raffle

tickets are $5.00 a piece or (5) for $20.00 and can be purchased right up until
the time of the drawing. Tickets are also available for purchase prior to the
event.

Attendees are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes and live music, food and beverages will be on hand for all to enjoy.

Admission is $5.00 per person, kids 5 and under are free.
