Long Island Portugal Day Parade

MINEOLA, NY- For the First time in over two decades, the Village of Mineola will honor the Portuguese community and its heritage by hosting the 1st ANNUAL PORTUGAL DAY PARADE on Sunday June 8th, 2014, organized by the Portuguese Heritage Society - Lusitano.

The Day of Portugal, Camoes and the Communities is a holiday celebrating the history and heritage of the Portuguese people throughout the world. This year’s Grand Marshall honor has been bestowed upon “The Children of the Community,” in recognition of the importance of the youth in the preservation of our culture and ideals. One child representing each organization will walk alongside a list of Honorary Marshalls that include New York State Senator Jack Martins, County Executive Ed Mangano, County Comptroller George Maragos, Mineola Mayor Scott Strauss, Deputy Mayor Paul Pereira and Trustees Dennis Walsh, Paul Cusato & George Durham, among
others.

The parade will assemble at 10am on Jackson Ave (behind Chaminade High School) and start at 11am in front of the Mineola Portuguese Center. Attendees will march down Jericho Turnpike to Roslyn Road, head south to Westbury Avenue, turn East to Union Street and end at Wilson Park during the Portuguese American Feast & Carnival (1.5 miles long).

We invite you to take part in this annual event. It is asked that participants respond no later than June 2nd, so that we have adequate time to make the proper accommodations. As a reminder, for those dressing for the occasion, the official colors of Portugal are green & red.

We’ve removed the ability to reply as we work to make improvements. Learn more here
