Winthrop-University Hospital Mini-Med's "What To Do In An Emergency"

What
would you do in the event of an emergency? Are you aware of the information
needed to relay to police or the fire department?  What about power outages or wires down on
your vehicle – or even terrorism threats? Kitchen fires, auto accidents, heart
attacks – we cover it all.

Learn what you need to know at Winthrop-University
Hospital’s Mini-Med seminar, “Emergency – What to Do”
on Wednesday, February 5,
2014,
from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The free program is open to the public and will
be held at the Spatz Conference Center, located in the lower level of the
Hospital at 259 First Street in Mineola. It will consist of an interactive
presentation designed to promote an awareness that may help keep you and your
family safe in the event of an emergency.



Gary T. Ferrucci, PC, EMT-CC, CIC,
an expert EMS Coordinator and senior member of the Valley Stream Fire
Department, will address a variety of emergencies, including but not limited
to, weather, medical, chemical and more.   Detective
Laurel Tobias, from the Nassau County Crime Scene Unit, will also be available
to provide valuable insight.

Other EMTs will join the
presentation to provide attendees with an engaging experience that promises to
be entertaining as well as educational. Additional
highlights of the evening will include a quick overview of CPR and the use of
an AED, as well as a simulated drunken driving demonstration.



The event will be moderated by James
L. Capozzi, MD, Chairman, Winthrop’s Department of Orthopaedics.

Mr. Ferrucci is a former Fire
Department Chief, Nassau County Police Officer, Detective and Investigator in
the Nassau County Homicide Squad.  Mr.
Ferrucci has tremendous first-hand experience in emergency situations of all
types. He was also awarded the New York State “Medal of Valor” from Governor
George E. Pataki in 2009.
